Say hello to Merlo Roto.. the newest member of the team

The Merlo Roto & Grapple Saw

He joined us in December, an early Christmas present shall we say, and since then the team have been on a thorough training programme, and have been practicing all over the estate and particularly tackling the ash dieback issue that is plaguing so many places.

Ash Dieback is disease that only effects ash trees and is caused by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. It can impact trees of all ages, and it often weakens them enough to make them susceptible to other diseases such as honey fungus. In the later stages of Ash Dieback, the trees become structurally unsound with the risk of falling branches or complete tree failures. The latest guidance is to retain as many healthy ash trees as possible, whilst removing any hazardous trees near buildings, footpaths or roads. For further information on Ash Dieback please visit RHS.co.uk.

The disease has spread rapidly over the last few years and is likely to continue to do so. In realising the scale of the current problem here at Preston Hall, we opted to purchase a Merlo Roto and Grapple saw. This has allowed us to safely manage our trees and selectively dismantle what is required while leaving as much as possible.

Now that we are making good progress managing the problem at Preston Hall, we have started to work offsite assisting others. The machine and operator can be hired to support tree surgeons, land managers, and foresters to make their work safer, more efficient and quicker. We can provide just the machine and operator or alternatively we can provide a full team to provide a complete solution to dealing with hazardous trees.
